21-year-old man stabs friend to death over girlfriend in Bauchi

A 21-year-old man simply identified as Ishaku has been arrested by the Bauchi state police command for stabbing his friend, Zeloti John to death over a girl. 

The incident reportedly occurred in a drinking joint in Dass on Friday May 29. Ishaku stabbed Zeloti with a knife in three different parts of his body following an argument over who was the "real boyfriend of the girl". 

Bauchi State Police Command's spokesperson DSP Ahmed Wakili confirmed the incident and also revealed that Zeloti John was rushed to the Dass General Hospital where he was confirmed dead. He was buried on Monday June 1. 

Wakili said the suspect has been arrested as investigation is ongoing to uncover the remote and immediate cause of the murder.

Governor Bello lifts lockdown in Kabba Bunu, insists Kogi is COVID-19 free

The lockdown imposed on Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of the state over suspected cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), has been lifted by the Kogi state government.  Governor Yahaya Bello who made the announcement at the Government House in Lokoja on Friday June 5, said the decision of lifting the lockdown in the local government area was reached after samples which were tested came back negative.  The Governor who insisted that Kogi state still  remains a COVID-19-free state, urged residents of the state to observe protocols of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to curb the spread of the disease. This is coming days after the NCDC announced that two Coronavirus cases were confirmed in the state. Dino Melaye also confirmed this by revealing that he knows one of the patients.

42 percent of Nigerians lost their jobs due to Coronavirus – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has announced that its recent survey revealed that 42 percent of Nigerians have lost their jobs due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The Bureau said the study was conducted between April to May 2020, during the time when the index case was identified in the country. It was further gathered that the impact of COVID-19 has been most strongly felt in the commerce, service and agriculture sectors. While seventy-nine percent of households surveyed reported that their households’ total income have decreased since mid- March, NBS added that the economic shock experienced by Nigerians after the outbreak of Coronavirus far exceeds shocks experienced between 2017 and 2019. A judge has set bail at $750,000 each for the three other Minneapolis ex-officers charged with aiding and abetting in the killing of George Floyd. The officers, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J.
