4 Minneapolis officers now charged in George Floyd’s death; Mugshots released

The mugshots of all the officers involved in the death of an African American, George Floyd, have been released.

Their mugshots were released after Senator Amy Klobuchar disclosed that Minnesota Attorney General, Keith Ellison is increasing charges against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin to second-degree murder. 

The Star Tribune, citing multiple unnamed law enforcement sources, said Derek Chauvin who had his knee pressed into Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, would face the more serious charge in the death of George Floyd. 
Sen. Amy also said that the three other officers at the scene Thomas Lane, J. Kueng, and Tou Thao are also going to be charged for their involvement in the incident following calls for their arrest.

The Star Tribune reported that the three officers are to be charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder. 

The new charges will be officially announced by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. 

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Floyd’s family, called it “a bittersweet moment” and “a significant step forward on the road to justice.” Crump said Elison had told the family he would continue his investigation into Floyd’s death and upgrade the charge to first-degree murder if warranted.

Governor Bello lifts lockdown in Kabba Bunu, insists Kogi is COVID-19 free

The lockdown imposed on Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of the state over suspected cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), has been lifted by the Kogi state government.  Governor Yahaya Bello who made the announcement at the Government House in Lokoja on Friday June 5, said the decision of lifting the lockdown in the local government area was reached after samples which were tested came back negative.  The Governor who insisted that Kogi state still  remains a COVID-19-free state, urged residents of the state to observe protocols of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to curb the spread of the disease. This is coming days after the NCDC announced that two Coronavirus cases were confirmed in the state. Dino Melaye also confirmed this by revealing that he knows one of the patients.

42 percent of Nigerians lost their jobs due to Coronavirus – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has announced that its recent survey revealed that 42 percent of Nigerians have lost their jobs due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The Bureau said the study was conducted between April to May 2020, during the time when the index case was identified in the country. It was further gathered that the impact of COVID-19 has been most strongly felt in the commerce, service and agriculture sectors. Judge sets bail at $750,000 each for the three other Minneapolis ex-officers accused of aiding and abetting in death of George Floyd

A judge has set bail at $750,000 each for the three other Minneapolis ex-officers charged with aiding and abetting in the killing of George Floyd. The officers, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Kueng made their first appearances in Hennepin County District Court as friends, relatives, and celebrities gathered for George Floyd memorial service in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis Police Department fired them last week, along with Derek Chauvin, who is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s May 25 death.
